The
minutes of the General Body Meeting of BMESI held on 01.02.2009
at
College of Engineering – Pune.
First meeting of the
Executive council of BMESI was conducted on 1st February
2009 at 8:30 A.M in College of Engineering – Pune and transacted
various points brought to the EC meeting. Following EC members
attended the meeting.

Expressed his inability to attend the meeting but sent us the agenda
items for discussion.
AGENDA ITEMS:
1)
It is proposed that assistance
of Rs.10, 000 to be given for workshop and Rs.20, 000 to be given to
the conference conducted in the name of Biomedical Engineering Society
of India.

It is resolved that Rs.7, 500
for workshop organizers and Rs.15, 000 to the conference organizers
can be given for conducting the workshop and conferences in the name
of BMESI.

Number of workshops to sponsored
by BMESI can be limited to two per year.
2)
It is proposed to increase the
allowance to the office staff from Rs.300 to 500 and Rs.500 to 750
respectively.

It is resolved to get the
further details from the Joint Secretary about the type of work
performed by these office staffs before enhancing the allowance.
3)
It is proposed to allot Rs.500
per month to the editor of Biomedical Journal Dr.Ramesh R Galigekere
for meeting the Internet Expenses in connection with Journal
activities.

It is resolved to defer this
item for the present.
4)
It is proposed to identify the
person responsible for maintaining the website for BMESI.

It is resolved that
Dr.G.Kulanthaivel will be responsible for maintaining website like
previous years.
-
It is further resolved to fix
the networking firm which will maintain the website and the
maintenance fees to be paid will be fixed in due course.
5)
It is proposed to fix the
subscription to be paid for various categories of membership in BMESI.

It is
resolved that the subscription for various membership are as follows.
For individual members annual subscription is Rs.100, Life membership
is Rs.1,500, Registration fees is Rs.20, Institutional Life membership
is Rs.15,000 Registration is Rs.100, student membership is Rs.50 per
annum.
6)
It is proposed to study the
possibility of creation of student chapters.

It is resolved not to create the
student chapters for the present. They can be associated with local
chapters. The decision will be taken in the subsequent meeting.
7)
It is proposed to update the
membership details in the website.

It is resolved that available
membership details like membership number, name, address, email etc
will be put in the website and members will be requested to confirm
the details. Dr.G.Kulanthaivel will be entrusted with this work. For
any modifications the members should send the details to
Dr.G.Kulanthaivel through email.

It is further resolved that any
letter sent to EC members will be sent to Dr.G.Kulanthaivel for
updating in the website.
8)
It is proposed to link with
other Professional bodies for strengthening association activities.

It is resolved to study the
method of interacting with other Professional bodies in Engineering
and Medical field for working jointly in the area of Biomedical
Engineering.
9)
It is proposed to study the
possibility of linking BMESI with International federation of Medical
and Biological Engineering.

It is resolved to request the
secretary of BMESI Dr.Niranjan D Khambete to discuss with secretary
general of IFBME Dr.Ratko Magjarevic for the possibility and method of
linking with both the associations.
10)
It is proposed to list out the
possible activities to be carried out in 2009 - 2010.

It is resolved to increase the
membership in all categories by sending letters to all Engineering
colleges in India offering Biomedical Engineering programmes.
Requesting the institution to join as a Institutional members and
teaching staffs to join as life members and students to join as a
student members.

Senior member in each region
will be requested to help BMESI to increase the number of memberships.

It is further resolved to accept
the request of Anna University Chennai to conduct next International
conference on Biomedical Engineering in the name of BMESI.The date
will be fixed after discussing with the university authorities.
11)
It is proposed to revive the
Journal of BMESI Medical and Life Science Engineering.

It is resolved that the Journal
of BMESI will be revived and it will be published twice per year to
start with and later on it can be increased to three issues per year.
Resources to meet the expenditure will be taken up in the next EC
members.
12)
It is proposed to continue the
publication of Newsletter of BMESI.
It is
resolved to continue the Newsletter as E-News letter through our
website itself. There will be four issues of E-News letter per year.
President and Secretary of BMESI along with Dr.G.Kulanthaivel will
manage the publication of E-News letters. Any member can give the
information’s/details to be published to any one of the members
mentioned above.

of the General Body Meeting
1. Vellore
Institute of Technology, Vellore will organize the National
Conference on Biomedical Engineering in
January/February 2006. Contact person: Prof. M. Mukunda Rao (L-553),
Research Professor, Biomedical Sciences
Division, Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute,
Porur, Chennai – 600 116.
2. Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal will
organize the National Conference on Biomedical Engineering
in September/October 2007 as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration
of the institute. Contact person: Dr. Gopalakrishna
Prabhu K. (L-334), Professor & Head, Dept. of Biomedical Engineering,
MIT, Manipal – 576 104.
3. It is decided to conduct Student Paper Competition
and One-day Workshop (or Tutorial) as regular yearly
events. Educational Institutes with BMESI-Student Chapter may come
forward to organize such events. BMESI will
sponsor the Prize amount for the Student Paper Competition and help
in locating renowned speakers (from the
academia or industry) in specialized areas for the Workshops /
Tutorials.
4. Dr. B. V. Raju Institute of Technology, Narsapur (AP)
will organize the National Level Student Paper
Competition in December 2005. Contact person: Dr. VVNR Prasad Raju
(L-668), Professor & Head, Dept. of
Biomedical Engineering, Vishnupur, Narsapur, Medak District –
502 313.
5. Dept. of BME, College of Engineering, Osmania University,
Hyderabad will organize one-day workshop
on Medi-Embedded System before August 2005. Contact Person Ms. Malini
Mudigonda (L-243), Dept. of Biomedical Engineering,
Osmania University, Hyderabad.
6. Dept. of Biomedical Engineering, Manipal Institute of
Technology, Manipal will organize a one-day
workshop in December 2006. Contact person: Dr. G. K. Prabhu (L-334).
7. Decided to have website (www.bmesi.org),
where the electronic versions of the BMESI newsletter, ENGMEDNEWS
and journal of the BMESI, Medical and Life Sciences Engineering
will be published. Mr. G. Kulanthaivel (L-469)
will coordinate the activities.
8. Mr. G. Muralidhar Bairy (L-335) is the Treasurer
of BMESI with effect from January 01, 2005 in place
of Mr. B. K. S. Rao (L-338) since the latter has shifted to Bangalore
from Manipal. The BMESI thanks Mr. B. K. S. Rao
for his committed service for six years.
9. Decided to provide identity cards to the Life-Members
of BMESI. Mr. G. Kulanthaivel (L-469) will coordinate
with BMESI office.
10. Agreed to appoint a part-time employee at BMESI office to look
after the regular activities like the membership
applications / postage / printing jobs etc. Rs. 750/- (Rupees seven
hundred and fifty only) per month is sanctioned
towards this appointment.
11. Currently the subscription amount for the Life Membership is
Rs. 750/-. This amount will be raised to
Rs. 1,000/- (Rupees one thousand only) with effect
from April 01, 2005 for new memberships.
BMESI congratulates Prof. Puvvada
Ramesh, Chairman, NCBME 2004 for successfully organizing
the Conference at GITAM College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam.
